Thanks to our email to the Social Welfare Department in Ghana, they have reconsidered what they are charging orphanages for a licence.  The initial licence has been reduced from 5,000 Ghana cedis to 3,000, and the annual fee thereafter from 2,000 Ghana cedis to 500.  (The exchange rate varies daily but is currently approximately 5 Ghana cedis = £1.)

This is fantastic news for all the orphanages in Ghana and we are delighted to have been instrumental in achieving this reduction.  Licencing of the orphanages and ensuring they meet the necessary requirements for providing a safe, healthy and happy environment for these vulnerable children is essential and hopefully the money the orphanages are paying will enable to Social Welfare Department to undertake careful monitoring and staff training.
