Legacy
Leave a legacy to the Ghanaian Children’s Trust in your will.
How to leave a legacy to GCT in your will
By writing a will, you will ensure that your estate will be distributed according to your wishes, supporting the people and organisations that really matter to you. You might want to leave all your estate to family or friends, but there may also be charities to which you would like to leave a lasting legacy. Leaving a gift in your will to the Ghanaian Children’s Trust will help us to continue to support the orphaned and destitute children in Ghana to ensure they have a secure place to live, food to eat and an education that will allow them to fulfill their potential as adults.
There are 3 types of legacy that you can give in your will:
A Pecuniary Legacy: this is where you specify an amount of money that you wish to gift. The wording that should be used for this type of legacy is as follows:
I leave to the Ghanaian Children’s Trust of 6 Kirkstone Gardens, Newcastle upon Tyne NE7 7AN, Charity Registration Number: 1106764, the sum of £ (to be completed) (amount in words) for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
A Residuary Legacy: there is where you specify a proportion of the residue of your estate to be gifted to the charity. The wording that should be used for this type of legacy is as follows:
I leave to the Ghanaian Children’s Trust of 6 Kirkstone Gardens, Newcastle upon Tyne NE7 7AN, Charity Registration Number: 1106764, (proportion of residue to be completed) for its general purposes and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
NB: if you wish to divide the residue between charities and private individuals, it is essential that you state whether the division should be on a gross division basis or a net division basis.
A Specific Legacy: this is where you wish to gift a specific item or items to the charity. The wording that should be used for this type of legacy is as follows:
I leave to the Ghanaian Children’s Trust of 6 Kirkstone Gardens, Newcastle upon Tyne NE7 7AN, Charity Registration Number: 1106764, (description of item) absolutely for the general purposes of the said charity and I direct that the receipt of the Treasurer or other duly authorised officer shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors.
