In May 2025, we received letters of thanks from a member of staff and two students from King Jesus Charity Home and are passing them on to you so you can see just how beneficial the support is that we give to help the children in the home.
The staff member tell us: “The Ghanaian Children’s Trust has become a great pillar to King Jesus Charity Home since 2004. Their support to the orphans, needy children, abandoned children and street children has been around all spheres of life, from shelter, food, medication, clothing, education and others. Through their support, a lot of the children have been able to graduate from various levels of education, from the junior high school, senior high school and to the tertiary level. Recently, through the help of the Ghanaian Children’s Trust, Emmanuel has been able to complete his university education at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and is currently doing his National Service. Also, Otabil has graduated at the University of Cape Coast with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, ready to start his rotation at the Anniwaa Medical Centre. Again, Collins Jnr is currently in Akrokerri College of Education, obtaining training in teaching. He is in the third year of a four year course. Through the help of the Ghanaian Children’s Trust, the girls’ house has been re-roofed to help solve the leakage of water when it rains, which has become a great relief for the girls living in the house. Also the support of some extra desktop computers has been provided by GCT to boost our computer lab and has helped the children to get more access to do research. The solar system, paid for by GCT, has provided great relief to the home by solving the problems caused by the erratic power supply and reducing the total cost of electricity in the home. Indeed, the Ghanaian Children’s Trust has been a very good support to King Jesus Charity Home. We really appreciate your support and that of everyone who donates to help.”
Collins Jnr writes: “My success report – an orphan child to a student teacher: I’m honoured to share my story as an orphan and how far I have come through the Ghanaian Children’s Trust and King Jesus Charity Home. In fact, I can’t recall when and how I found myself in the charity home. I was a really small boy. I started my nursery education in the charity home and you can imagine my age as at that time. God being so good, the Ghanaian Children’s Trust, through King Jesus Charity Home, has been instrumental to my journey of hope. As a poor boy and an orphan, life wouldn’t have been on a silver platter for me and my dreams, sheltering, medicals, clothing and feeding. For life to be possible I, like every individual, needed these basic necessities. I have lived at this charity home for about 18 years now. I have been a beneficiary of this Trust’s support through KJCH, from basic level of education, secondary education and now I am honoured to report that I am in my third year at Akrokkerri College of Education. Today I am proud to be a student teacher in the tertiary level of my education, pursuing a four year course of Bachelor of Primary Education, shaping young minds in my nation and the world at large. It is my dream to inspire my learners with my story of a humble beginning and also encourage them with how difficult life could be on our journey to destiny. The Ghanaian Children’s Trust, through King Jesus Charity Home, covers all my expenses, being shelter, feeding, clothing and, above all, medical bills. I want to say a big “Thank You” to the Ghanaian Children’s Trust through Bishop Kofi Owusu Afriyie and all management at King Jesus Charity Home for believing in me and investing in my dreams, bringing hope to a hopeless orphan boy like me and now I am also on the path of destiny – not just destiny but fulfilling destiny, teaching profession. Thank you for giving me hope, opportunity and a chance to succeed. I am privileged to be a student teacher, and I look forward to making a difference in the lives of others, inspiring and empowering my students, creating a supportive and inclusive classroom and making a positive impact in my community. Your support has transformed my life, and I am eager to take it forward by making a difference in the lives of others and look forward to inspiring future generations and my learners.”
A second student writes: “My journey: A Success Story at King Jesus Charity Home. As a university graduate, I cannot help but look back on how far I have come. I did not set out on this path with ready-made answers. It all started because King Jesus Charity Home provided me with assistance when I was at my lowest. I clearly remember how nervous and uncertain I felt on the day I arrived at the home, but the warm welcome I received showed me I had found not just shelter, but a supportive and caring family. At King Jesus Charity Home we always place great emphasis on academic learning. They help us attend lessons, provide necessary supplies and suggest extra help after our classes. Some subjects were confusing for me in high school and I felt I did not know what to do. Even so, Sir Moses, who doubles as a staff member at the home and a teacher by profession, spotted that I was struggling and stayed after school to help me learn what I needed to know. Thanks to his backing, I learned and applied an important lesson about education. Living at the charity home had its challenges and, at times, I felt lonely or unsure of where I fit in. However, the constant support form Director Bishop Kofi Owusu Afriyie, the administrator and other staff, along with the shared celebrations and daily moments, helped me feel valued, understood and truly part of a caring community. As I prepared to apply to university, King Jesus Charity Home was there to help me as before. Thanks to the Ghanaian Children’s Trust, I accessed the advice and assistance essential for finishing my application process and scholarship paperwork. I could not have applied to Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to offer BSc Natural Resource Management without their motivation along the way. Besides guiding me, the Ghanaian Children’s Trust assisted me in getting a laptop, which I used a lot for my studies at university. The laptop made it possible for me to research, finish my assignments and keep up with the online world. I am profoundly grateful that the Trust saw my needs and helped when I needed it most. University came with tough moments and, at one point, I felt so overwhelmed that I nearly gave up. However when I reached out to the home, their support and reassurance gave me the strength to keep going. Being a graduate today fills me with gratitude. King Jesus Charity Home not only provided me shelter, they helped me feel a part of a community, offered me opportunities to study and gave me the basis for success in life. The Ghanaian Children’s Trust assisted me throughout and I owe special thanks to the donors whose help made everything achievable.”
Receiving these reports makes us feel very proud of what we are doing here at the Ghanaian Children’s Trust, but none of it would be possible without the generosity of our supporters whose regular donations ensure we can continue with our work, and the grant-making organisations that support our special projects such as the installation of solar power and the new roof on the girls’ house. Thank you to you all.
The photo shows Bishop Kofi and me in his office, reviewing developments at King Jesus Charity Home, assessing current challenges, and outlining priority needs for the coming months.
