Trustee’s report from Ghana

Our trustee, Jean Edusei, visited King Jesus Charity Home this week and has sent this report: “I visited KJCH and was delighted to see that all the children and staff are well and very happy.  There is enough food, thanks to local churches and people making donations, and to the money the Ghanaian Children’s Trust has been sending (a total of £9,500 since 1 January 2017).  The kindergarten, primary and junior high school pupils have all moved to a new school, Mispah Mission School,...

Newcastle school supports GCT

Students, staff and parents at Gosforth Park First School in Newcastle upon Tyne have been working hard all year to raise funds for our charity to help the children in Ghana. At a school open day in June they presented a cheque for £1,162.12 and expect that total to go up to nearer £2,000 by the end of the school term. TRUSTEE AWARDED MBE!

We are delighted that one of our founder trustees, Jean Edusei, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the Queen’s birthday honours list.  The MBE was awarded for Services to Girlguiding and young people in Ghana. Jean has been a Brownie leader in Newcastle since 1989 and has held several roles in Guiding since then, including organising 5 trips for older Guides to visit Ghana and carry out projects at King Jesus Charity Home in Kumasi, an experience that...

Garden Party Success!

Thank you to everybody who braved the atrocious weather to come to our garden party, which turned out to be a house party.  We had a great turnout and raised a magnificent £554.30.  In addition, our calendar raffle raised £265 with one lucky person winning £100 for buying 18 March.  Thank you to all the helpers who worked so hard throughout the day to make it a great success. Hopefully next year’s event will be in the garden!

Bandages & plasters needed

  In July this year, 12 members of Girlguiding Newcastle will be travelling to Ghana to work at King Jesus Charity Home – this will be the 5th group of Guides to do so since 2003.
